Reading & Writing Update #11 – March 19th, 2025

Reading

It’s been a slow reading week for me, but that’s okay. I started a couple of books and I’m listening to one slowly on audio.

I started Runtime by S.B. Divya, her debut novella about a dystopian future where our main character wears an exo-skeleton to run in a high endurance foot race. It’s a short book, and I’ll likely finish it later today or tomorrow. I really liked Machinehood, Divya’s novel from a few years ago, and I’ve enjoyed some of her short stories.

I also started The Mysterious Mannequin & The Crooked Banister by Carolyn Keene. This is a cute little book that has 2 Nancy Drew Mysteries in it. I grew up reading The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew Mysteries when I was a kid, so these books are pure nostalgia for me. I finished The Mysterious Mannequin last night and it was pretty mid. The main mystery was a McGuffin and the explanation for it at the end was pretty lame. I have a feeling The Crooked Banister will be better.

I’ve been listening to The Forgetting Moon by Brian Lee Durfee since the beginning of the month. It’s not a bad book, or a boring one, but it’s long, and it’s a pretty dark and unforgiving world. I’m listening to 1-2 hours per day while I work, and it’s been nice to dip in and out. I have ~14 hours left (out of an astonishing 30 hours!), but I’m in no hurry.

Writing

I added words to my manuscript, but it’s been a slow process. Even getting 500 words down per day has been hard. That’s not due to a lack of trying; I’ve engaged with the text everyday, but I’m writing in small 30-45 minute pockets whenever I have time. This scattershot method isn’t very productive, but I’m making progress. I’m confident I’ll find a rhythm.
