I have been an infrequent blogger these past few years. I tend to write blog posts only when the mood strikes. I’ve tried general blog posts, book reviews, and cultural critiques, but nothing has filled me with enough passion to continue on that same track. Book reviews are fun when I’m feeling in the mood, but sometimes they can feel like homework assignments. One of my resolutions for 2025 is to post more frequently here on my website, as I’ve all but abandoned other forms of social media.
I’m not a huge online sharer, but two things I consistently journal about are what I’m currently reading and how my writing is going. This makes sense: I am currently writing fiction faster than I ever have before to try and hone my skills, and reading is my core hobby. Combining those two into a weekly blog post sounds like it will tick all my boxes. Plus, I tend to ramble, and my friends and family can only hear so much of my rambling before they retreat into their own heads.
What to expect from this website in 2025
Disclaimer on the above heading: since this isn’t a job for money, and it is only being done for fun, I do not claim that I will be as perfectly consistent as I hope to be.
There. Now to my goals:
1) A weekly blog post on Wednesdays starting January 8th that will give an overview of what I’m reading. These won’t be detailed synopses, or full reviews. They will be mostly general thoughts.
2) These same blog posts will also outline what I’ve written that week, what I hope to write in the next week, and all of the foibles associated with this endeavor. This will again be general. I can’t spend too much time on these posts instead of actually writing.
Why am I doing this and why should anyone care?
First and foremost, these posts are for me. They are a way for me to organize my thoughts. This is something I already do privately. I’m choosing to place them on this website instead as a way to collect them all, and to give a small glimpse into my attempts as a newly serious writer with a busy day job and limited free time.
Secondly, writing consistently has been a challenge my entire life. Committing to a regular schedule to write a few hundred words of rambling thoughts seems like a low bar I can achieve.
